I wanted to take this opportunity to invite all of you to CJME's first Dialogue Group meeting of the quarter, a screening of the Lebanese film "Caramel" or "Sukkar banat."

If you weren't able to come to meetings last quarter, PLEASE feel free to come this quarter! Also, if you have friends who are interested in dialogue, INVITE them! This is meant to be FOR and BY those passionate about the Middle East on campus to discuss their differing and even conflicting beliefs about what is going on in the region and to educate one another. If you have an issue that you would really like to discuss or an idea for a future meeting, please let us know.
In case you were wondering, "Caramel" or "Sukkar banat" is an award-winning Lebanese film made in 2007. Here's a synopsis:
A romantic comedy centered on the daily lives of five Lebanese women living in Beirut.Layal (Nadine Labaki) works in a beauty salon in Beirut along with 3 other women. Each one has a problem: Layal has a relationship with a married man, Nisrine (Yasmine Al Masri) who is no more a virgin, will soon be married, Rima (Joanna Moukarzel) is lesbian and Jamal (Gisle Aouad) is worried about getting old. Rose (Sihame Haddad), a tailor with a shop next to the salon, is an old lady who devoted her life to take care of her older sister, have found her first love.
